Learn By Leo introduces Velio

Dear YouTuber,

I get it.

Getting more views is hard. Really f*cking hard.

You spend an ungodly amount of time scripting, filming, editing.

Then you hit publish, and… *Flop*

Disappointment.

Again.

The algorithm isn't pushing your videos to enough people.

And even when it does, the viewers aren't clicking.

This sh*t show is called Creator Hell.

It's hot and muggy there.

No bueno.

So, how do you find ideas and packaging that'll *actually* get you more views?

Well, the YouTube experts pretty much all give the same advice:

Put simply, find a video that got way more views than normal.

And then adapt that proven topic, format, title or thumbnail for yourself.

(Note: Don't copy. Remix. ).

How remixing works

Outlier remixing is the practice of modelling elements of a video that got drastically more views than normal.

Let me break down some real case studies for you.

(Note: Never copy the content itself. Copying and remixing are not the same thing, as you'll see in the examples.)

Example 1: Nisha’s video

Let's break down how Nisha, a creator with 18,000 subscribers at the time, used outlier remixing to get 2.7 million views!

Here's the original video she took inspiration from, followed by her remix of it.

Original

Things I STOPPED Buying & Owning | Minimalist for 5 Years

2.1M views

Remixed
Nisha in a muted grey room beside white words on dark rectangles: 9 things I would never buy

9 Things I Stopped Buying to Make More Money

2.7M views

First, what makes the original video an outlier?

Well, it was posted on a channel that had fewer than 50,000 subscribers.

This channel's previous videos typically got 10,000 to 20,000 views.

So the fact that this video has 2.1 million views makes it a massive outlier.

But how did Nisha remix this?

Well, first, look at the idea and title.

Original
Things I STOPPED Buying & Owning | Minimalist for 5 Years
Remixed
9 Things I Stopped Buying to Make More Money

Both use the “things I stopped buying” topic.

Nisha then remixes it by adding a different angle: making more money.

Now look at the thumbnails.

Original

Remixed
Nisha in a muted grey room beside white words on dark rectangles: 9 things I would never buy

Both have a similar muted, grey feel, with the creator sitting in the frame and large white text beside them.

And notice what’s behind the words.

Original

Remixed
Remixed: close-up of white thumbnail text over dark, see-through rectangles

Both put the white words over dark, see-through rectangles. That helps the text stand out from the room behind it.

Even the length is similar.

Original
8:12
Remixed
7:16

Nisha's video runs for 7 minutes 16 seconds. The original is 8 minutes 12 seconds. Less than a minute apart.

To be clear, the content in these videos is completely unique. Nisha delivers her own list and perspective in a similar amount of time.

And the result?

Nisha's video got 2.7 million views and blew up her channel.

She started with 18,000 subscribers. Her video reached far beyond that audience.

Example 2: Jim’s video

But sometimes outlier remixing is even more subtle. Take a look at this example, where a small creator blew up a video by remixing an outlier from a completely different niche.

Jim's channel is shown with just 6,200 subscribers in this example. His remixed video reached 2.1 million views.

The original is a 39-second gaming video about Skyrim. Jim's video is about life advice.

6.1M views

Remixed
Jim outdoors with the words Don't Waste Your Life

It took me 40 Years to Realize What I'll tell you in 8 Minutes

2.1M views

First, look at the original.

It reached 6.1 million views. The title opens a question: what took ten years to discover?

When you research a video like this, compare it with the channel's usual views. An outlier isn't just a video with a big number. It's a video that did drastically better than normal for that creator.

So, what did Jim remix?

Look at the opening words of both titles.

Original
It took me 10 years to realize i could do this
Remixed
It took me 40 Years to Realize What I'll tell you in 8 Minutes

Both start with the same hook: “It took me [X] years to realize…”

It makes you curious. What did they discover? And why did it take so long?

Jim takes that hook and applies it to his own experience: “It took me 40 Years to Realize What I'll tell you in 8 Minutes”.

Then he adds another reason to click. You can learn in eight minutes what took him forty years to figure out.

Notice what he doesn’t copy.

The game. The footage. The advice. Even the thumbnail and video length are different.

He models the title hook, then uses it to introduce a completely different video for a completely different audience.

And the result?

A creator with 6,200 subscribers. A video with 2.1 million views.

You don't need a huge channel to reach a huge audience. And your next title hook might come from a niche you'd never normally research.

Example 3: My thumbnail

But you don't always have to remix the idea or title. Sometimes, all you remix is a single element, like the thumbnail. Here's an example of how I did this.

I found the original on a small channel. The video is “0 → 1,000 subscribers in 1 WEEK With 1 Video”. Mine is “How To Grow A YouTube Channel From 0 Subs”.

Original
An orange J profile icon beside New Channel and No subscribers, on a white background

0 → 1,000 subscribers in 1 WEEK With 1 Video

Remixed

How To Grow A YouTube Channel From 0 Subs

1.3M views

First, look at the original.

It reached 142,000 views. The thumbnail makes its starting point obvious: a new channel with no subscribers.

Just as with the other examples, the research is about how a video performs compared with that channel's usual results. You're looking for something that stands out.

So, what did I model?

Look at the layout. The orange profile icon on the left. “New Channel” beside it. The subscriber count underneath.

Original
An orange J profile icon beside New Channel and No subscribers, on a white background
Remixed
An orange N profile icon beside New Channel and 0 subscribers, on a dark background

Both thumbnails communicate the same starting point in a split second. If you're trying to grow from zero, you can immediately see that the video is relevant to you.

Now look at what I changed.

I switched the white background to black, changed the profile icon from “J” to “N”, and replaced “No subscribers” with “0 subscribers”.

The title is different too. The original promises 1,000 subscribers in one week with one video. Mine explains how to grow a channel from zero.

I modelled the thumbnail's visual structure, then used it to package my own content.

And the result?

My video reached 1.3 million views.

You don't have to model every part of a video. Sometimes one useful element is all you need to take inspiration from.

You can see why remixing caught on.

Instead of having to guess at what video, title or thumbnail will get you more views, you just do the research.

Let the data and real case studies show you the way to your next viral video.

But this strategy has one massive problem:

Which is the next thing I'll share in the letter you were just reading.

Love it or hate it, the data is clear:

Outlier remixing was the most reliable way to get a lot of views.

Still unsure? Email hello@velio.co and talk to a real person.

Is Velio just an outlier finder?

No. Outliers are one signal. Velio combines niche monitoring, competitor research, cross-niche format discovery, packaging inspiration and an AI strategist that helps turn the data into an idea you can actually make.

Is this just copying other creators?

No. Velio helps you identify audience demand and understand the topic, format or packaging principle behind a successful video. The goal is to adapt the signal into an original angle that fits your channel, not duplicate somebody else’s work.

Can’t I do this research manually for free?

You can. Velio is for creators who do not want to spend hours opening channels, comparing baselines, saving links and checking for new patterns every day. It compresses that work into one focused workflow.

Will Velio guarantee that my next video goes viral?

No honest tool can guarantee that. Velio helps you make a better-informed bet before you invest in production by showing what viewers are choosing now and why it may be working.

Is Velio useful for smaller channels?

Yes. Velio can surface videos outperforming a channel’s normal baseline and filter for smaller creators, so you are not limited to studying channels that already have millions of subscribers.

What if the data feels overwhelming?

Ask Agent Velio a plain-English question such as ‘What should I make next?’ or ‘Why did my last video underperform?’ It uses your channel and niche context to help you find the useful signal.
